Tributes paid to Don ‘Crazy Legs’

A rock ‘n’ roller famed for his ‘Crazy Legs’ was remembered at a charity night in Morecambe.
Friends and family gathered at Smokey O’Connor’s pub to pay tribute to Don Carter, whose nickname came from his trademark high kicking action on stage.
Don, who died in October 2012, was the front man of 60s group The Senators, famed for the song ‘Please Don’t Touch’.
The two remaining original members of Don’s band, Dave Gange and Graham Dugdale, joined with other musicians who had played with Don over the years – Tony Crane, Laurence Birch and Mike Kemp – to recreate the atmosphere of a ‘Crazy Legs’ gig.
All present agreed that Ian Skelland did a brilliant job of bringing Don’s repertoire of old rock ‘n’ roll classics back to life for one last knees-up.
The proceeds of the raffle, organised by Don’s wife Janet, were rounded up to £550 by Smokey’s landlord Sean O’Connor and donated to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary Oncology Unit, the charity chosen by Janet in recognition of how well Don had been treated there.
