Storey future hangs in balance

THE future of the Storey Creative Industries Centre is hanging in the balance after councillors reversed a decision which would have seen town hall chiefs take control of the building.

At a full Lancaster City Council meeting on Wednesday, Conservative councillors warned that it would be an “utter disaster” for the council to take over the running of the cash-strapped centre.

Councillors were told that the authority could not afford to take over the running of the centre within its current budget.

New financial information has come to light since that decision was taken by the council’s cabinet at a meeting earlier this month.

Almost all councillors voted to reverse the decision, with just one vote against and five abstentions.

They voted to withdraw support for the company and asked for a report into all possible options for the future of the building.
