Residents oppose link road at inquiry

SIX objectors spoke out against the Heysham-M6 link road as the new public inquiry entered a second week.

During a hearing at Lancaster Town Hall on Tuesday morning, inspector Peter Robottom heard from Warton resident Mike Dickinson, who has proposed the alternative Lancaster Bypass Link, David Gate, chairman of the Transport Solutions for Lancaster and Morecambe campaign group, Morecambe town councillor Linda Davies and Lancaster residents Lynne Jones, Gwyneth Robertson and Bob Deegan.

They told Mr Robottom that the £123m road would not solve local congestion problems in Lancaster. Another Lancaster resident, Jim Capstick, backed the £123m road, claiming it would boost the economy.

The inquiry will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, when hearings take place at Torrisholme Methodist Church in Norwood Drive at 2pm and 6.30pm. A second Lancaster hearing scheduled for Thursday is unlikely to proceed due to a lack of speakers.
