Red Arrows are given lift off

THE Red Arrows will fly over Morecambe after all this Sunday when thousands descend on the promenade for a two-day free festival of entertainment.

The Seaside Festival this Saturday and Sunday is tipped to be the biggest of a successful summer of outdoor music festivals in Morecambe.

Highlights include a Take That tribute band on Saturday night at 7pm on the Morecambe Arena stage followed by a fireworks display at 9pm and the Red Arrows’ visit on Sunday at noon – weather permitting.

The world famous air display team’s visit was in doubt after they were grounded following the death of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging after a crash at Bournemouth Air Festival last month. But the Red Arrows have now resumed their programme of dates.

Coun Ron Sands, tourism cabinet member, said: “It’s great news that they have announced that they will be continuing their displays and I’m sure it will be a fitting tribute to Flt Lt Egging.”

Extra police will be out in force for the event and alcohol bans on streets will be strictly enforced. Lancaster City Council have told the public not to bring their own alcohol to the festival but a licensed bar will be available with alcohol sold in plastic containers.
