A MUM has paid tribute to her ‘truly special’ son who lost his life after a skate park accident.
Greg Richardson, 15, lost his battle for life after the accident on his BMX bike at Morecambe Skate Park.
Elaine Richardson said: “He was our precious son and brother who was loved far more than words can tell, and we can’t describe how much we will miss him.
“He brought great happiness into the lives of everyone who knew him.
“Nothing will bring him back but his memories will last with us forever. There has been so much support from friends. My friends have been amazing under these very difficult circumstances.”
Greg, a pupil at Morecambe High School who lived locally with his family including dad Andrew and sister Gina, was at the park on Sunday, July 8, when the accident happened.
The 15-year-old passed away following a lengthy battle at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on July 19.
The coroner at Preston is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Friends and family hope to establish a permanent memorial to Greg and fund-raising ideas are being discussed.
The skate park, which was built with the backing of a number of local agencies in 2004 and is owned and managed by Lancaster City Council, remains open.
Councillor David Smith, Cabinet member with responsibility for Environmental Services at Lancaster City Council, said: “This is obviously a very distressing time for Greg’s friends and family and the city council would like to extend its sympathies to them. We are cooperating fully with the police in their investigation into this tragic accident.”
Greg’s funeral will take place on Thursday at 4.15pm at Torrisholme Crematorium. A memorial service will be held afterwards at the Globe Arena on Westgate.
Tributes to Greg, who died on July 19, have poured in on the social media sites Facebook and Twitter.
