Morecambe FC concert plans get go-ahead
MORECAMBE FC’s plans to hold music concerts at the Globe Arena have been approved by Lancaster City Council’s planning committee.
On the front page of last week’s Visitor we told how council officers had recommended the Shrimps be allowed to hold three days of live music on their pitch each year.
The gigs, which would attract 12,000 people per day, look set to feature big touring names.
The controversial plans have been given the go-ahead, today, Monday, April 2, having been previously turned down by council officers.
Police have removed their objections but according to the report which recommended the plans were approved, they still have “grave concerns” about the traffic the concerts would create.
The report also indicated that to try and control any traffic problems five out of six gig-goers would have to arrive by coach.
Other limits mean music would only be allowed between the hours of 9am and 9pm to minimise the impact on Westgate residents, some of whom have complained about the plans.
