More Music announced as chosen charity

The Visitor is delighted to announce that our chosen charity to benefit from this year’s Morecambe Day and Sunshine Ball is More Music.

This year the music and education charity in the West End of Morecambe celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Based at the Hothouse in Morecambe, More Music delivers workshops, training, performances and festivals across Morecambe and beyond.

More Music organises Morecambe’s popular Catch the Wind kite festival, the West End Festival, the Baybeat streetband, music-making sessions for teenagers and many other popular events.

People of all ages benefit from the activities.

In recent months the charity has made a significant investment in Morecambe by redeveloping the building it has inhabited for the last 20 years and opening a brand new venue – the Devonshire Hall.

The building – known as The Hothouse – also has new rehearsal rooms, recording studios, office space and other facilities. The charity’s aims are to build confidence and spirit in individuals and communities through the arts, especially music.

More Music also has a history of 20 years of national and international projects including The Long Walk, which explored issues surrounding the Morecambe Bay cockling disaster in 2004.

Artistic director Pete Moser and development director Kathryn MacDonald said everyone at the charity is delighted that More Music is this year’s Morecambe Day and Sunshine Ball beneficiary.
