St John’s Hospice was one of the fortunate benefactors of the former Mayor’s charitable Fund over the last year.

Councillor Paul Woodruff and his wife Dee called into the hospice to present their generous donation of £1057.85.

Councillor Woodruff has now hung up his robes and handed the Mayoral responsibilities to Councillor Sheila Denwood of Scotforth West, but since May 2011, Mr and Mrs Woodruff have worked tirelessly in order to raise much needed funds for the hospice.

Councillor Woodruff has attended more than 200 engagements during his year as mayor, and thanked his wife, and former mayoress, Dee for her total commitment throughout.

He said: “To be the mayor of this great city and district has been an absolute delight, an adventure that few are fortunate enough to experience. I would not have missed it for the world.”

Mr and Mrs Woodruff visited the hospice during their mayoral reign and even served tea to the hospice’s day patients.

“We also looked to visit and meet as many charities as we could. We did just that. We applaud everyone involved for their magnificent work,” said Mr Woodruff.
