Lollipop patrol fight rages on

A city councillor has blasted our MP as the fight for a ‘lollipop patrol’ at a Heysham school goes on.
Margaret Pattison said new flashing lights and a sign to help children cross the road near St Peter’s School in Heysham village were not sufficient.
David Morris, the town’s Tory MP, recently lauded Lancashire County Council’s proposed new traffic calming measures after raising the issue at Prime Minister’s Questions.
But Labour councillor Pattison accused Mr Morris of trying to score political points, which the MP has denied.
“It is unfortunate that our flagging MP is determined to turn this into a party political farce and attempt to claim credit for this incomplete measure,” she said.
“Half measures are less than acceptable from a county council who should be doing all they can to make roads safer for our young people.
“I and many residents in Heysham believe a lollipop warden would do a better job .”
Alan Greenhalgh, whose grandchildren go to the school, said: “We will fight on in our campaign and are back to talks with the school crossing department.”
Mr Morris said: “Let me be clear, I do not think the safety of our children should ever be deemed to be party political.
“The safety of our children is far more important than any petty party politics.
“When I was informed about the installation of the lights and sign I went to the home of the constituent (Barbara Langridge) who initially brought the need for safety measures to my attention and (she) was pleased with the outcome.”
