Health shop owner’s Africa school appeal
A PHILANTHROPIC Morecambe businessman has funded and built a school for orphans in Uganda and is now seeking public support in the run-up to his next visit to Africa.
Mike Willetts, who owns the Morecambe Health Foods shop on Pedder Street and lives in Warton, has been supporting the school for several years.
On January 26 he will be travelling back to Uganda with his colleague Steve Dunstan to do voluntary work such as painting the school, helping with classes and running health awareness sessions.
The school in the Mukono district of Uganda has grown over six years from two classroooms with 70 pupils to six classrooms with 285 pupils.
All of the children are orphans and in the first four years the school was funded entirely by private donations.
