Head teacher speaks after sex case verdict
THE head teacher of Heysham High school has praised staff for their support during a "difficult time" after a teacher was convicted of exchanging sexually explicit messages by computer with a teenage pupil.
Maurice Graham spoke after Ian Goy was found guilty of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
"I am very pleased to say that the procedures we have in place worked well and Mr Goy was suspended as soon as the allegations were made," said Mr Graham.
"This has been a difficult time for all concerned and I am grateful for the support of our teachers and governors, and colleagues at Lancashire County Council.
"We are a happy and successful school, recognised by Ofsted for 'the outstanding quality of care, guidance and support' enjoyed by our pupils, and we feel confident about our future."
Goy, 27, of Lockerbie Avenue, Thornton Cleveleys, persuaded a 15-year-old girl to send him images of herself in her underwear.
He was found guilty unanimously by a jury at Preston Crown Court on February 17 and will be sentenced in March.
