Geraldine Smith discusses genetics
MORE than 40 people crammed into Costa Coffee on Marine Road in Morecambe to join Geraldine Smith MP and Rev Graham Doel in a discussion about genetics.
The event was organised by The Morecambe, Sunday Night Project and took place last Sunday, July 13.
Ms Smith gave people an insight into the importance of the issues being debated in Parliament under the Human Tissue and Embryo Bill.
Everyone from the staff of Costa Coffee to the people who came were keen to ask questions and clarify their own thinking. Geraldine Smith encouraged people to write letters to her about issues that concern them.
Minister of the Baptist Church and one of the organisers of the Morecambe, Sunday Night Project, Rev Graham Doel, was enthusiastic about the event: "To see such a range of people engaging with important, but complex, ethical issues in this way was exciting."
The Morecambe, Sunday Night Project, was conceived by Rev Doel to appeal to people who wouldn't normally enter a church building.
In a bid to engage more people with issues of life and faith it has replaced the evening service of Stanley Road Baptist Church. It meets in different locations on Sunday Evenings.
Events cover a mixture of social evenings, discussions about issues of life and faith, and alternative approaches to Christian worship. More details are available from their website: www.sunday-night.org.uk
