Fire at Morecambe school under investigation
Lancashire Fire attended a fire at West End Primary School.
FIRE crews suspect a fire which broke out at West End Primary School in Morecambe was started deliberately.
The blaze broke out in a storage shed next to the school at around 11pm on Monday.
The shed, which contained outdoor toys, was destroyed by the fire, and flames spread to a nearby classroom window, damaging the window and causing smoke damage to the room.
Firefighters were at the scene in Chatsworth Road for two-and-a-half hours.
School headteacher Steve Wetherill said the fire had not affected the school day.
“It’s business as usual,” he said. “The shed was totally destroyed and some damage was caused to two adjacent sheds, but the main damage to the school itself was to the classroom windows from the heat.”
The school breaks up for summer on Thursday.
