The M6 is closed in both directions following the death of a man who was hit by a car.

Police said the accident happened on the northbound carriageway near Junction 31 at Preston at around 1.30pm today.

The motorway will remain closed until the man’s body is removed and accident investigation work is carried out.

A police spokesperson said: “Traffic is busy in the area and we would advise motorists to avoid the area.”

The closure is highly likely to affect areas to the north of Junction 31.
