THE Olympics have come early for a community fundraiser from a West End charity.

Dawn Gillon from Galloways Society for the Blind is taking part in a sponsored event where budding athletes can choose a sport that is part of the Games, then pick their own challenge associated with it.

Dawn has chosen to do a one mile swim (64 lengths), a two mile run and a 10 mile cycle ride every day.

She is looking to raise funds for the Balmoral Road-based charity as she has twin daughters, Hannah and Emily who have been visually impaired since birth.

The girls are now 25 years old but have been members of Galloways for about 10 years now.

They have found the charity’s support and guidance of great help as they struggled throughout their teenage years to come to terms with their disability.

Emily said: “It is great to be part of a group where everyone is the same and your eyesight is not important.

“We are given the opportunity to take part in every day activities and feel part of the community.

“I have become a lot more confident since being part of Galloways to do the same things as everybody else.”

If you would like to show your support and sponsor Dawn, please go to www.viginmoneygiving.com and write ‘Dawn Thornton’ in the Sponsor a Friend search bar to donate.

If anyone else would like to join in the challenge, you don’t need to do a triathlon every day, but can choose a sport you are comfortable with. Please call Dawn on 01524 414846.
