Christmas comes early

THIS FIVE-YEAR-OLD cutie is to be the face of Scope's new Christmas campaign.

Ryan Glendenning, who suffers from Cerebral Palsy and severe learning disabilities, will front the national campaign which will be seen by millions in the build up to Christmas.

"I was really surprised when I heard," said mum Kelly.

"I'm so proud of him.

"Everybody says what a lovely looking boy he is."

A photographer from London, a Bristol ad agency and a representative from the Scope Cerebal Palsy charity visited Ryan's house in Albert Road, Morecambe, while the family put up their Christmas tree and trimmed up the house for the photo shoot.

"It was bizarre to have Christmas in August," laughed Kay, Ryan's grandma.

"They took around 240 pictures but I think they will only use a few."

Ryan, who cannot walk or talk, was chosen to front the campaign after being nominated by staff at Beaumont College, where he is involved in the 'Aiming High' project.

"They were looking for a child of Ryan's age, with his needs and who was on the Aiming High project," explained Kay.

"In the end it came down to two children nationally. We were so tickled with it when he was chosen."

Ryan, who attends The Loyne School, has a seven-year-old brother Joseph and the whole family can't wait to see Ryan in the national campaign.

"He's so photogenic," said Kay.

"We are so proud of him."

Jason Suckley, director of Fundraising at Scope commented: "We're absolutely delighted that Ryan and his family are going to feature in our Christmas fundraising campaign.

"We thought their story was a very powerful one and demonstrated how the support that Scope has been able to provide in this instance has had such a positive impact not only on Ryan but his family as well.

"The story of how Ryan and his family have been working together with Scope will be sent out to over thirty thousand people across the county.

"We're hoping to raise over 150,000 from the campaign so we can carry on providing this type of support and reach out to even more families in the future."
