Appeal after attempted robbery

CCTV images have been released by police appealing for information following an attempted robbery.

At 8am on June 14, a man entered the Premier store on Princes Crescent in Morecambe.

He walked to the fridges, selected a pint size carton of milk and approached the counter to pay.

He then spoke to the female cashier whilst at the counter and asked for a packet of cigarettes, before handing over money, taken from a black wallet, to pay.

As the staff member opened the cash till, the man demanded that she remove money from the till, which she refused to do, at which point the man leaned over the counter, grabbed the woman by her clothing and repeated his demands.

The woman again refused and managed to pull away from him, he lost his grip and walked out of the store heading towards Bare Avenue.

Detective Sergeant Fiona Jackson of Lancaster and Morecambe CID said: “Fortunately, the shop assistant was not hurt, but she has understandably been left shaken by what happened and I would urge anyone who has any information to come forward.

“We have released CCTV images of a man that we are looking to speak to in connection with the incident and would ask that if anyone recognises the images, to get in touch.”

Call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
