£6m car sting trio hit hard
THREE men who admitted their involvement in a multi-million pound car fraud have had £500,000 of their assets confiscated.
James Mounsey, 36, of Hale Carr Lane, Heysham, Alex Howard, 32, of Salisbury Close, Morecambe and Thomas Howard Beard, 49, of Acorn Lodge Stables, Clayton-le-Dale, were all convicted following a major investigation by Lancashire Constabulary's Serious and Organised Crime Unit.
The investigation evidenced a substantial quantity of cars being brought into the country without the requisite VAT being paid.
It showed that the value of the vehicles purchased by the men was in excess of 6 million.
All pleaded guilty to VAT evasion and money laundering offences and were sentenced to periods of imprisonment in September 2007.
Since that time the confiscation proceedings have been continuing.
