More Music survives arts funding cuts

MORECAMBE’S unique community music organisation has survived swingeing Arts Council cuts - but the arts scene in Lancaster has not been as lucky.

More Music had their bid for £61,084 for 2011/12 accepted but The Dukes Theatre and Ludus Dance are among those to have had their Arts Council funding slashed.

Litfest in Lancaster are among several arts groups to have received no cash at all.

More than 200 organisations nationwide that received regular funding from Arts Council England have missed out after “a series of painful decisions”.

About 1,300 venues, theatres, galleries and arts groups applied for grants from the council, which had its budget cut by £100m in October’s Spending Review.
