Can you believe it? There are just 18 days to go before Remembrance Sunday – time to mobilize the troops.
After a year of upheavals at the county level of the Royal British Legion and in our own branch we now have a poppy co-ordinator in place and looking for more volunteers to help with this year’s appeal.
Mal Neil, the proprietor of the Berkley Hotel, an ex-King’s Own Border soldier and my personal friend has the task this year to organise the appeal on behalf of Morecambe and Heysham. He needs some help in providing volunteers to be available at our static selling points in supermarkets and, in fact, any help anyone can give. He can be contacted on 07717 793034.
Local folk have always been generous in their contributions towards the Poppy Appeal, we now need some willing volunteers to give Mal a good start to his tenure ship.
A big well done to Steve Trainor for his Poppyscatter bowling night last week.
He helped to raise just short of £400 on Friday night with a night of ten pin bowling.
Carrying on the Legion theme, this Sunday is the Annual General Meeting for the Morecambe and Heysham branch at the York Hotel. It starts at 11am and all members are extremely welcome.
It would be great to see more members attending this year and giving us their thoughts and ideas in order to keep the local branch fresh, vibrant and looking toward to the future.
If anyone wants to join the local branch get along at about 11.45am to complete a membership form.
This year is the start of many big commemorations in the military world with the centenary of the start of World War One.
I believe Legion members and the public are privileged, honoured and almost humbled to be the ones who are carrying the torch for the brave service personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice all those years ago.
If you can help in any way it would be gratefully appreciated.
