Man cleared of rape and sexual assault charges

Preston Crown Court.

Preston Crown Court.

A man has walked free from court after a jury cleared him of charges of rape and sexual assault.

Robert Lloyd, 64, always denied the allegations he attacked the two women after spending the night with each of them separately at the same hotel in Blackpool.

Giving evidence at Preston Crown Court, Lloyd, of Peplow Road, Heysham, claimed the women, who can not be identified, had “got their heads together” and made the allegations in the hope of making money out of him.

One woman said she slept in the bath to escape Lloyd but the hotelier at the Brayton Hotel told the court none of the three storey hotel’s double rooms were equipped with a bath in the ensuite.

Lloyd, a former nightclub doorman, admitted he had a reputation as a womaniser but said he had no interest in the women who made the allegations against him.

The jury found him not guilty of two counts of sexual assault and a single count of rape.
