Have your say

A man who was arrested on suspicion of the attempted theft of the Eric Morecambe statue has been released with no charge.

It is believed the 32-year-old man from Morecambe has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Being ‘sectioned’ usually involves a long-term stay in hospital for assessment and treatment.

Police and Lancaster City Council were called to the statue of the famous comedian on Saturday afternoon after reports that somebody had sawed through two-thirds of its standing leg.

The bronze sculpture by Graham Ibbeson was removed by the council for repairs.
