Man arrested after car crash havoc

A MAN stole a car on New Year’s Day then crashed it causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The driver took the car from an address on Euston Road and then, according to a witness, drove it the wrong way on the one-way section of West End Road near the junction with Morecambe promenade.

The vehicle damaged several other cars and ‘street furniture’ including a metal post. The driver then fled.

Police were called to the scene at 7.15am. The road was shut for several hours afterwards.

A man from the local area was later arrested at an address in Morecambe.

He was being questioned by police on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, causing damage of £5,000 or over, drink driving, using a vehicle without third party insurance and failing to stop after an accident.
