A man was lucky to survive serious injuries after he was mowed down by a car in Lancaster, police have said.

Officers are appealing for witnesses after the 21-year-old was sent up onto the vehicle’s bonnet and windscreen.

The incident happened on Bulk Road at around 10pm on Wednesday (July 24), when the man was walking with his mother.

Lancashire Police said a dark grey Audi A3 came ‘screeching down the road’, performed a U-turn and stopped.

A short conversation took place before the vehicle was driven towards the man.

He escaped with minor injuries and was treated at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Police said it is believed the driver is known to the victim.

PC Michael O’Regan, from Lancashire Police, said: “It was pure luck that the victim wasn’t more seriously injured and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Lancashire Police on 101, quoting log number LC-20130724-1948, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
