A TEENAGER from Morecambe is preparing to swap Big Macs for the big match – a wrestling match, that is.
In Luke Vedick’s regular job, he serves burgers and fries at the McDonalds drive through on Morecambe Road.
But in his spare time, 17-year-old Luke has been training for the past three years to take on the beefcakes of the wrestling ring.
Now the Lancaster & Morecambe College personal training student is ready for his pro debut as a wrestler on Saturday, May 12. And by sheer coincidence, his first match will be at the college itself...just across the road from where he works!
Luke, from Scafell Avenue, will be part of the next live XWA Wrestling show, which has moved to Lancaster & Morecambe College following the closure of The Carleton.
The ex-Morecambe High School pupil has been piling on the pounds preparing for his debut – not on a diet of chicken nuggets – but through hard work in the gym. Luke has chosen “Luke Baxter” as his wrestling name because the Baxter name is synonymous with Morecambe – the Baxters being one of the oldest fishing families in the town.
On May 12 he will wrestle in a “tag team match” with his regular partner “Action” Jack Clarke from Leyland at the “War on the Shore VIII” event.
There will be six action-packed bouts on the three-hour show, which starts at 7.30pm. Tickets from 01524 582808, Morecambe Visitor Information Centre or www.xwawrestling.com.
