County top for wildlife sightings

Lancashire is at the top of the list for number of animals reported as part of the Canal & River Trust’s annual wildlife survey - the Great Nature Watch.

The North West region, which has a thriving network of canals, has accounted for 27% of the overall national sightings reported so far this year.

Volunteers from Lancaster and District Samaritans are heading down to local railway stations to mark Talk to Us, the charity’s annual awareness month, which runs throughout July. On Thursday, July 24, volunteers from the charity will be at Bare Lane railway station in Morecambe, in coordination with Northern Rail, from 7am-10am.Call Samaritans on at 01524 61666.
