Two stone lions were a ‘mane’ attraction on Morecambe prom after being toppled by thugs.

Police are investigating after the statues were pushed over outside an antiques showroom on the seafront.

The statues, valued at £2,000 combined, weigh between half and three quarters of a tonne each.

They were toppled some time during the night on Wednesday and Thursday.

“It’s chipped them and damaged five or six flags on the ground,” said Chris Fearnley from Northern Relics antiques shop.

“Whoever did it must have put their shoulder in to push them over. It took four of us to pick them back up. I guess it’s a case of the lions sleep tonight.”

The stone animals proudly ‘stand guard’ outside the shop and are a distinctive feature on Marine Road.

Police are examining CCTV footage. If you have any information call 101.
