WITH his life on a different track, Morecambe rail enthusiast Jim Downham hopes soon to be pulling into a new station in life.
As Visitor readers may recall Jim bought the former station building at Bare Lane in 2004 after making a successful bid at an auction filmed for TV's 'Homes Under the Hammer'.
At the time he described it as his dream home, a lifelong love of the railways meaning that, for him, the property really was on the right lines.
He bought it in a disused and decrepit state for 132,000 and has spent many more thousands since, making it into the comfortable home it is today.
It is now back on the market for 299,995 and is being advertised in specialist publications as well as our propertytoday.co.uk website.
Another favourite pastime for Jim is salsa dancing and that's where he met his new love – and now fiancee – Neusa who hails originally from Brazil.
Jim told The Visitor: "We've talked about it and think we would like to stay in Bare but look for something a little smaller, perhaps a bungalow.
"I've been really happy here and had it not been for my meeting Neusa and deciding to get a new house together, I'd have been happy to stay.
"I will have a tinge of sadness leaving it but I believe you have to get on with life.
"I've been very pleased with the project here and how it's been upgraded but something a bit smaller would be better for me now. I have had a heart attack fairly recently – and Morecambe FC losing 4-0 on Saturday didn't help – but now it's time I took it easier and we were looked after a bit."
The station house, modernised and completely refurbished by Jim's contractors but retaining a lot of original features, is being marketed
by Jessops Estate Agents and you can find the details via their Morecambe office on 01524 423000 or via propertytoday.co.uk. It is described as – Station House, Bare Lane, Bare. Former station master's house built in 1881 and renovated in 2004 with two reception rooms, three bedrooms, four-piece bathroom plus ground floor shower room.
Majority double glazed, gas central heating, oak-style fitted kitchen, utility room, gardens front and side and ample parking.
