Frank Sinatra fans had High Hopes for a great gig at the Platform. But the show was cancelled at the last minute after metal thieves struck.
Saturday night’s Sinatra tribute show featuring the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra was called off due to a major leak partly caused by the theft of lead flashing from the roof.
A blocked drainpipe also contributed to the leak.
Staff found water pouring into the Platform following Friday night’s ‘Later...with Jools Netherland’ concert.
The drain was cleared and emergency repairs carried out but as the weather forecast further rain the decision was made to call off the Sinatra show.
Repairs are continuing and security has been stepped up at the Morecambe seafront venue. Police are investigating.
Anyone who bought a ticket for Saturday’s concert will be contacted and offered a refund.A similar big band show is being planned for the Platform in March 2014.
A Sunday afternoon international convention for crochet enthusiasts at the Platform had to be moved to the Strathmore Hotel.
