The vintage cafe owned by Janette Currah will be opening in the former Green Room cafe on Euston Road, which was a firm favourite with locals for many years.

Janette, who came to Morecambe from Kirkby Lonsdale 10 years ago and has a background in hospitality, ran The Crown Hotel on Morecambe promenade for five years.

She said: “I already own a vintage shop called Sassparella on Pedder Street so I will be moving two thirds of the stock from there to the cafe.

“I want to concentrate on old fashioned pops, soda, waffles, retro things. I’m still thinking of ideas. I want a street artist to paint the building.

“We are going to start decorating inside this week and hope to be open before the end of May.” Janette will be keeping the original furniture from The Green Room cafe, which is melamine tables with green chairs, which Janette says are quite kitsch and she plans to decorate in orange, yellow and black.

She said: “I want the decor to sympathise with the furniture because I think it is really cool.

“I’ve always wanted a cafe and I’m quite passionate about Morecambe.

“I want the outside of the cafe to reflect what’s going on inside. Art deco and the seaside is my idea but whether I can pull it off I don’t know. I want to play vinyl music whilst customers enjoy an ice cream or coffee.

“There will be no teacloths, because I want it to be a cafe rather than a tearoom.

“I want to encapsulate a lot of the decades and I will be doing homemade cakes and snacks to start off with. I’m not a chef although my husband Roy runs the kitchen at The Royal in Morecambe.

“I don’t want to do something like anyone else.

“I’ll serve pancakes and Wallings ice cream.

“I opened the vintage shop Sassparella last year and I’ll be sad to move from Pedder Street because it has a really great vibe there now.

“The cafe will take up two thirds of the room and my vintage items a third.

“I’ve got a lot of time for old people and I want anyone of any age to come into the cafe and enjoy listening to vintage music and enjoying food and drink.

“I’ve been interested in vintage and retro for about twenty years and I’m quite passionate about it.

“I can’t compete with Costa but I justwant something quirky that reflects me.”

The cafe will be called Sassparella vintage cafe.
