They will record the time vehicles enter and leave the Morrisons car park on Central Drive.

The change has been made after shoppers complained they were struggling to find spaces during busy periods.

The Central Drive supermarket used to have a ticket machine system where shoppers could park free for two hours but this has been out of order in recent months.

The system will be managed by Euro Car Parks of London.

Morrisons store manager Martin Woods said: “Customers told us they were having difficulty finding a space at busy times, so we have introduced a new car park management system to discourage drivers who overstay.

“Morrisons customers can park at our store free for up to three hours.

“New signage has been put up around the car park and leaflets are available in store to let customers know about the changes.”

A Morrisons spokesman also said that customers of shops on the same retail park – DW, Homebase and Next – were also welcome to use the car park under the same three-hour maximum stay rule.
