Morecambe prom walk for the dogs

Volunteers will take part in a fourth annual sponsored walk along the promenade to raise vital funds for a dog charity.

Lynn Matthews, from Heysham, with her assistance dog Christa and her sister Brenda, will be leading the group of 30 along Morecambe promenade.

All walkers and pooches are welcome to join the walk on Sunday May 8 at 11am. The sponsored walk will help raise funds for Dogs for Good, which explores ways dogs can help people overcome challenges and enrich communities.

Last year the walk raised more than £1,500 for the charity, whose North West centre currently supports three assistance dog partnerships in the Morecambe area and 17 in Lancashire, helping adults and children with a disability.

Organisers Lynn and her sister Brenda hope to encourage more people to take part and to exceed last year’s total to enable the charity to train more dogs.

Lynn said: “The walk is shorter this year as my battery on my wheelchair ran out on the last one and my sister had to push me. It is open to everyone but dogs need to be on leads.” You can register on the day or by contacting Lynn before on 01524 298106. After registration at 10.30am, the walk sets out from Battery Car Park to Happy Mount Park along the promenade and back.
