Morecambe fire station has received a high number of emergency calls during the past 48 hours as temperatures soar.

A spokesman for Morecambe Fire Station said 14 incidents were logged for the town – an unusually high number due to the amount of people outside enjoying the hot weather.

Many of the fires started in bins or piles of rubbish.

Incidents included a chip pan fire at Park Street in Morecambe on Thursday at 7.45pm.

A spokesman for Morecambe Fire Station said the fire was already out when the crew arrived.

Fire officers also dealt with a small bin fire outside Costa Coffee on Marine Road Central at 6.35pm.

The spokesman said a disposable barbecue had been left in the bin.

Other incidents included a small rubbish fire on Trumley Court at around 1.25pm on Thursday.

There was also a skip fire outside a house on Morecambe Road at 2.30am on Friday, the cause of which is unknown.
