It’s that time of year again when we put the smile back on the face of Morecambe...it’s time for The Visitor’s fifth annual Morecambe Day and the 2013 Sunshine Awards!
Held every year on the nearest Saturday to the birthday of the town’s favourite son Eric Morecambe, Morecambe Day is the day when The Visitor celebrates all that is wonderful about our town.
Forget the doom and gloom, it’s time to recognise who has made a positive difference to Morecambe.
The Sunshine Awards Ball, held the night before, is when we also celebrate some of the people who help make Morecambe so special.
This year, Morecambe Day 2013 will take place on Saturday, May 11.
The Sunshine Ball will be held at the Midland Hotel on Morecambe promenade on Friday, May 10.
We are also once again giving you, our Visitor readers, your say in the voting for the Morecambe Sunshine Awards.
So who do you think should win this year?
Our reader categories are:
The Sunshine Unsung Hero award will be awarded to an individual who deserves recognition for their work in the Morecambe community.
He or she could be a charity or community worker, a teacher, a group leader or anyone who sums up the term “unsung hero”.
2012 winner: Don Holroyd from Save-a-Pet
The Sunshine Community award will be awarded to a community group. This could be an organisation, charity or similar. The winning group will have made a positive difference to the community of Morecambe.
2012 winner: Morecambe Brass Band Association
The Sunshine Sports award will be given to an individual or a team who have excelled in the sporting arena. This could be a Morecambe sportsperson of any age, or a manager, trainer or coach, or a team.

The Sunshine Ball itself is a gala black tie dinner including three-course meal, live entertainment and the awards themselves, and has become one of THE events on the Morecambe calendar.
