A new water sports-based festival will be held in Morecambe Bay this weekend (June 27 to 29).
One of the highlights will be the British Kitesports Association Northwest Open Kitesurfing Championship at The Battery.
Spectators will be able to see a host of daring tricks before having a go for themselves at free Powerkite sessions operating from the safety of the beach.
There will also be an opportunity to take advantage of the free SUP taster sessions being delivered by British Kitesurfing.
The Kitesurfing element of the weekend will be brought to life by renowned commentator, Lewis Crathern; four times UK national men’s kitesurf Champion (freestyle).
Lewis also jumped both Brighton and Worthing piers and is a regular commentator on the PKRA World Kitesurf Freestyle Tour.
The HM Coastguard Argo Avenger Amphibian rescue vehicle and RNLI lifeboat will be on display at the Stone Jetty Grassed area, with the RNLI Hovercraft joining the display on Sunday.
There will also be a chance to see the best view of the Bay from the top of the 18ft ridge-line climbing tower – as well as the most realistic caving experience to be found above ground.
At Morecambe Town Hall Slipway, free kayaking and sailing taster sessions are being operated by Lancaster and District Canoe Club and Morecambe Sailing Club, with additional dinghy racing also to be seen on Sunday.
Morecambe Community High School students will literally launch activities as part of the event on the Friday noon tide.
