A Morecambe musician is joining a world record attempt at the London Marathon this month.
Laura Hounsome, who works as a projects officer at Lancaster University and has been playing for the Morecambe Brass Band and Lancaster University Brass Band for the past few years, will be joining up with musicians from all over the country to try and set a new Guinness world record for ‘the fastest marching band to complete a marathon’.
Laura, 25, said: “While aiming to raise over £60,000 for the deafblind charity SENSE, the band will attempt to complete all 26 miles while continuously marching and playing well known tunes.
“We have raised £43,000 so far and counting! The band has been training hard to complete the marathon in under seven hours 22 minute.”
The Sense Marathon band will be appearing on the One Show prior to the marathon on April 13 and it has had celebrity endorsements from Rafa Benitez, Sir Patrick Stewart and Sue Perkins.
