Poppies scattered at Happy Mount Park are expected to be in full bloom this Sunday for a special service of commemoration.

A World War One centenary service will be held at Happy Mount Park this Sunday (August 3) at 3.30pm involving members of the Poppy Scatter campaign.

Co-ordinated by bus driver Steve Trainor, Poppy Scatter aims to plant poppies all over the town as a mark of respect to those who died in the Great War, while raising money for charities.

More than 14m seeds have been sown in Morecambe and further afield to raise money for the British Legion and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

Poppies had to be replanted in the park after they went missing in June.

Morecambe Brass Band will play at the service and there will be a special march to the poppy beds.
