Man threatens to jump off bridge

A section of road was closed at Hest Bank after a man climbed onto a railway bridge and threatened to jump off.

Trained officers were at the scene attempting to talk the man down on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services got a call at 9.15am and negotiations with the man continued for several hours.

British Transport Police tweeted at 12.45pm that the man had been safely removed from the bridge and was being assessed by medics.

A section of Marine Drive was closed following the incident between the VVV Health and Leisure Club, and Rushley Drive.

Trains were suspended between Oxenholme and Lancaster but were back running at 1pm.
