Could Alfie Boe headline a major music festival in Morecambe?

Morecambe Town Council is dangling a £15,000 grant in front of event promoters hoping to attract stars of Boe’s stature to our town.

The council sees a festival like the Lytham Proms, headlined by the classical singer last year, as the kind of event they want to see in Morecambe.

Renowned as Lancashire’s biggest music festival, the Lytham Proms was founded in 2009 by event producers Cuffe and Taylor, and pulls in crowds of tens of thousands to the Fylde coast town each year.

Other big names appearing have included Olly Murs, Lesley Garrett and Rita Ora.

“The council has decided to re-advertise £15,000 of its 2014 festivals budget with the aim to attract a new and larger festival, or festivals, with the potential to grow year on year and to become sustainable,” said David Croxall, town clerk.

“For example, the Lytham Proms Festival weekend which now features well known international artists over three days of sell out performances.”

Event promoters can apply for all or part of the £15,000 grant but must include a three-year business plan, as well as budget, target audience, sponsorship and marketing information.

Applications need not be confined solely to music festivals.

The closing date is December 20. Anyone interested should contact Mr Croxall at Morecambe Town Hall, telephone number 01524 422929.
