X Factor star Paul Akister has had a dramatic image makeover in a bid to win this year’s series.
The Lancaster singer has lost more than two-and-a-half stone after being rejected at the judges’ houses stage last year.
Our Paul performed at Sunday’s Morecambe Carnival after racing back from the auditions for this year’s series of the ITV talent show.
He tipped the scales at 17st 1lb but by mid-April, thanks to a punishing fitness regime, weighed 14st 5lbs.
Soul singer Paul, who performs at pubs and clubs around the district, was touted as a potential winner of last year’s X Factor after Take That star and judge Gary Barlow said he had the best voice in the competition.
But mentor Louis Walsh controversially failed to put him through to the live show stage, saying the contest wasn’t just about the vocals but the full package.
Walsh has since encouraged Akister to audition again for this year’s show as he believes he can win.
In interviews since last year’s series, Paul said he thought his image had held him back.
