Resurfacing to revive the heart of Lancaster city centre is well under way.

The £1million investment works to reinvigorate Market Square and the surrounding streets started at the beginning of March – with further work now starting to resurface the rest of Market Square.

The Charter Market will continue to run Wednesdays and Saturdays as normal.

Installation of a new Market Square centrepiece, hopefully by the end of July, will mark the end of this phase of work.

Coun Janice Hanson, Lancaster City Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for Economic Regeneration and Planning, said: “We can now look forward to what was once a tired and uninviting place portraying an image befitting our important historic city.”
