IS John Bishop starring in a Christmas pantomime in Lancaster this year?
Oh no he isn’t.
But excited panto-goers got confused when they saw a poster advertising the superstar comedian for Dick Whittington at the Grand Theatre.
About a dozen callers phoned up the box office in a clamour for tickets - only to be told the poster outside the venue was a fake.
Bishop is currently filming a new ITV comedy drama called ‘Panto’ at the Grand.
His character Lewis Loud will appear in Dick Whittington on the TV show and the poster is just a prop for filming purposes.
But as the Lancaster Footlights ‘am dram’ society are also doing Dick Whittington at the Grand from December 7 to 28, customers got the wrong end of the stick.
“It’s fantastic they have chosen Lancaster to do the filming but I was concerned because my panto is Dick Whittington as well,” said Ellie Singleton, theatre manager.
“Members of the public are walking past, they see John Bishop on the poster and they think he’s on at the Grand in panto!”
A disclaimer has now been placed underneath the poster to clear up the misunderstanding.
Filming for ‘Panto’, starring Bishop and Mrs Biggs actress Sheridan Smith, continues at the Grand until November 28.
“John has been great and Sheridan is lovely,” said Ellie.
HERE is your chance to star in John Bishop’s new ITV show ‘Panto’ as an extra.
Volunteers are wanted for filming at the Grand this Saturday, November 24.
You would need to be available that day between 8am and 6pm.
Anyone interested should contact Ellie Singleton by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
