Four friends are hoping 13 will be their lucky number when they take on a charity golf challenge.
Team Captain Graham Clements, along with Marc Holmes, John Sirzaker and Stephen Brown will play for 13 hours and cover more than 13 miles as they take on Lancaster, Heysham, Morecambe and Lansil Golf Clubs all in one day as part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Longest Day event tomorrow, Wednesday, June 18.
The quartet will start at Lancaster at 6.30am before Heysham around 10.30am, Morecambe at 3pm with the grand finale at their home club Lansil with the day expected to end around 10pm.
Graham, 32, from Lancaster, said: “This is a cause that is important to everyone.
“Everyone knows somebody who’s been affected by cancer and the work Macmillan do is second to none.
“We’re all keen golfers and it was me who suggested it to the others. They agreed and then when the full information came through we realised it was going to be a bit harder than we thought!
“It’s roughly 13 and a half miles and that’s if we hit the ball straight!”
Graham, a 22-handicap player, suffers from sciatica but is fully prepared for the physical challenge ahead.
He said: “I wasn’t looking forward to telling my physio!
“And when we talked about it he warned me I might be sore for a day or two.
“But that’s nothing unusual and the things people with cancer go through are far, far worse so it’s the least we can do to raise money.”
The team are hoping to raise around £2,000 with the top four teams from 800 across the country based on scores on the day and money raised heading out to Portugal for the final.
