The Visitor is fighting for the freedom of Morecambe Birdman John Wilkinson after he was jailed for feeding the birds.
The Visitor acknowledges that Mr Wilkinson’s actions in breaching an ASBO were against the law and in no way belittle the difficulties faced by his near-neighbours.
However we argue that a jail sentence is:
a. Out of proportion for the crime committed;
b. An unnecessary waste of taxpayers’ money;
c. Unlikely to make any long-term difference to Mr Wilkinson’s behaviour or benefit those impacted by his anti-social behaviour in any way.
In light of these arguments, The Visitor requests that Mr Wilkinson is released from prison and the other methods of intervention for the issues are discussed by the relevant authorities.
Active and meaningful support is also requested for those in Morecambe who have suffered as a direct result of Mr Wilkinson’s bird feeding activities.
