Fire brigades’ strike action

Latest news.

Latest news.

Forty calls for assistance were made in Lancashire while firefighters went on strike on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Retained crews manned fire engines while the Fire Brigades Union members walked out on three separate occasions in a dispute over changes to pensions and the retirement age.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said while most of the calls were to false alarms and small fires, there had been two serious fires and a malicious call, all during the strike between 2pm on Saturday and 2am yesterday.

The spokesperson said: “The strike periods went off without incident.”
