Here’s another amazing achievement in the life of D-Day war hero Russell Dunkeld.

Russell, 88, has just become a great great grandfather for the first time.

Baby Alexa Rose Ann was born in the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on June 12, weighing 6lbs 12 and a half ounces.

Her mum Jordan Scott, Russell’s great granddaughter, was herself a five generation baby.

Russell was featured in the Lancaster Guardian two weeks ago, retelling the story of how he landed on the beach at Normandy as part of the D-Day operation in 1944. As a stretcher bearer who carried the wounded to safety, he helped save hundreds of lives.

“He’s very very proud of his great great granddaughter,” said Russell’s daughter Carole.

“He’s had so many people contact him after the article in the Guardian, he’s having the time of his life.”
