A Coronation Street star has gone back to his roots in Morecambe.
Actor Peter Gunn, who plays bumbling head teacher Brian Packham, enjoyed a day out in the town where his mother was born.
Peter and his mum Barbara had lunch at the Midland and toured the Winter Gardens last Wednesday.
“I’m interested in the Winter Gardens because The Entertainer was filmed here, wasn’t it?” said Peter.
”It’s wonderful to see buildings like this still intact. But it’s going to be a big ask to get it back to what it was.”
Peter, who leaves the show later this year, also praised the Midland and “unbelievable” Morecambe sunsets, saying co-star David Neilson (Roy Cropper) is also a big fan of them.
Peter’s mum Barbara was born in Heysham but left town as a child, moving to St Annes where the soap star was born.
“I used to walk down the promenade and think I’d never go into the Midland hotel,” she said. “A different level of people went in there.”
Peter is not the only Coronation Street cast member with a local connection.
Cherylee Houston, who plays Izzy Armstrong, is from Morecambe.
Helen Worth, who plays Gail McIntyre, grew up in Morecambe and as a child, danced at the Winter Gardens.
And Kate Ford, who plays Tracy Barlow, went to school in Kirkby Lonsdale.
