The Lancashire Safeguarding Children Board has a new chairman.

Jane Booth takes over from Nigel Burke, who has stepped down after five years.

She has overseen the high-profile serious case review into the grooming and sexual exploitation of young people in Rochdale.

Jane said: “I’m very pleased to be taking on the role of independent chair of the Childen’s Safeguarding Board in Lancashire, which has a strong track record of partnership working by committed and diligent staff.

“Partnership is vital in a county as large and varied as Lancashire, which has such diverse communities, each with its strengths and challenges, and I’m looking forward to playing my part in this.”

Jane retired from the post of deputy chief executive of Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service in 2010.

Her career began as a probation officer in 1970, moving to social care in the late 70s and focussing on children’s services since then.

She was assistant director for children’s services in Kirklees in the 90s and regional director for the Social Services Inspectorate in the north west.
