A local businessman and three friends are planning to cycle 177 miles to raise funds for a a uniformed group after they suffered a devastating burglary.
Robert Preston, whose son is a cub at 3rd Morecambe and Heysham Uniformed Group has planned the fundraiser which involves cycling from Morecambe to Bridlington over two days, to raise cash for the group.
Robert said “ Its despicable that people think they can just break in and take what they want.
“The boys and girls that attend the Group work hard all year to fundraise for much needed equipment, equipment that is no use to the people that took it but so important to them. They were left devastated when they learnt about the break in.
“Groups like St Johns encourage children of all ages to care about their community, not steal from it or damage it
“I wanted to help raise funds to replace the items that were stolen and cycling 177 miles is my way of showing the children that there are plenty of good people willing to help them raise money to replace the stolen and damaged items”
Anyone wishing to sponsor Robert can call in to Norman’s Butchers on Heysham Road or Heysham Library where they will find a sponsor form.
Any local business that wishes to help replace any of the stolen equipment can contact Kirsty Mosley at email@example.com.
