Award for Lancaster graduate who's worked with top names in music business

Music mogul and former Lancaster University student David Shackleton has received an Alumni Award from the university.

“Dave Shack” – as he is known in the music industry – has worked with some of the biggest names in music, including Annie Lennox, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Westlife.

He worked as a freelance rock journalist with the magazine Kerrang! while still a student at Lancaster, where he graduated with a degree in History and Politics in 1988.

His first full-time job after graduation was with Metal Forces magazine.

Following a stint at BBC Radio One, he joined BMG Records and then Sony, where he worked for 23 years in marketing, promotion and international, rising to become a vice-president of the company.

He is currently managing director of Phantom Music, Iron Maiden’s Management Company.

David was accompanied by his proud partner, TV presenter and former Pop Idol judge Nicki Chapman, at the presentation.
